Spring/Summer Hats

I'm a very simple person when it comes to "accessorizing" -- I stick to basics, and tend to wear the same accessories every day.  But I have a few exceptions to this basic rule.. and hats is one of them!  I love hats.  I think they're adorable, functional, and can add something special to any outfit.

Most people own plenty of winter hats: beanies, barets, pompoms, trappers, you name it.  They keep you warm and cozy when it's freezing outside.  But a lot of people shy away from wearing hats in the summer!  And understandably so.  Heat escapes through the top of your head when it's hot outside, so the idea of trapping in all that warmth is unbearable to some.  Plus there's always the excuse of "I just don't look good in hats!" (which I don't think is true at all, no mater who you are!)  But personally, I love a good summer hat just as much as their winter counterparts.

Here are three of my favorite sunny day hats, along with both a cheaper and moderate price-point option.  All three are a different style and serve different roles in different outfits.

1. A large, floppy straw hat:

Don't mind the random wrinkles!

This is my favorite go-to summer hat.  It works with almost any type of outfit -- think: a flowy sundress, a pair cut off jean shorts and a tank, a floral romper.  Wear it to the beach, the park, the mall, to class, a nice Sunday brunch.. wherever!  The shape of this hat is so flattering on literally everyone, no matter who you are or what you think.  It can be dressed up and dressed down, and the neutral, universal straw shade is flattering with any color palette.

2.  A fun baseball cap:

Almost everyone owns a baseball cap or two.  Whether it's from a little league softball team you were on in the 5th grade, a charity half marathon you ran, or an impulse purchase at a sports game you attended.. there's usually some type of cap in your closet (or under your bed.. or wherever).  But I think a really fun way to spice up a casual outfit is with a unique "fashion" cap, if you will.  Look for a style that fits your aesthetic.  Mine is a pleather snakeskin pattern -- just different enough to stand out, but not crazy enough to call unwanted attention.

3.  A lightweight fedora:

Out of the three styles, this may be the most difficult shape for some people to wear.  Fedoras can sometimes throw off the proportions of your head and face -- but there are shapes for everyone! -- so try it on and make sure it is the right fit for you before you buy it.  This is another hat, like the floppy straw hat, that can work with virtually any type of outfit.  It's as easy to wear with a circle mini-skirt as it is with a pair of denim overalls.  Just be sure to pick a flattering shape and size, and you're good to go!

I hope you don't shy away from summer accessorizing with some cute, warm weather hats this spring and summer!  If you've ever thought, "Man, this outfit is nice, but a little boring.." try a hat and see what a difference it can make :]
