How to Fake Big, "Second Day" Hair

I'm the kind of person that needs to take a shower every morning, or any time before I leave to go out for the day.  But as a result, my hair tends to fall a little lackluster.  I don't have to blow dry, straighten, or even comb/brush my hair after a shower -- it just sort of is the way it is.  When I'm craving that "second day" messy hair look, I can never get myself to actually leave it unwashed to style it.  That said, however, my scalp is very oily (like the rest of my face), and it's very difficult to go without at least rinsing it out and/or conditioning it every morning.  [I'll write a blog post about my no-'poo adventures in Europe and the amazing things it did for my hair soon!]  After a full day of being out and about, I come home to strands that are already glistening with oil.  And oil + the silkiness of Asian hair leads to disastrously lifeless locks.

That's when I turn to my holy grail hair product: Big Sexy Hair Powder Play Volumizing + Texturizing Powder.  It's a miracle.

For $17, this little container can last a long time.  I discovered it a few years back when my mom (who rocks a short bob) came back with it after a trip to the salon.  I fell in love with it, and haven't looked back since.

The powder itself is very strange -- but in a good way.  When you shake it out, it almost looks like snow..?  It's not a powder in a sense that baby powder or baking powder is.  But it almost instantly melts/dissolves into a sticky, manageable, chalk-like feeling.  I either dust a little on my hand and scrunch it into my scalp, into the roots of my hair OR shake it directly onto the top of my head and work it in with my fingers.  There really is no way to describe this product without actually feeling it and seeing it in person.

I'm happier than I look in this photo, I swear!

The result is phenomenal.  If you aren't a big fan of feeling product build-up on your hair, I will warn you that this is NOT for you.  You can feel the "powder" residue in your hair until you wash it out.  It leaves your hair feeling voluminous, course, and a bit stiff -- kind of like if you sprayed a ton of dry shampoo on your hair and left it there instead of combing it out.  It makes it difficult to "run your fingers through your hair" so to speak.

You don't need a lot of product to make a big impact.  Use only a little for a tiny bit of lift at your roots. Layer it on for a huge, texturized style!  You can even sprinkle it into already-curled hair (or regularly-styled hair if you have natural curls) to create blown-out, beachy waves.

Look at how much volume it creates!  For as sparse and as LONG as my hair is right now (my 24" extensions aren't as long as my natural hair at the moment..), it could never be this big without Powder Play.

For that messy, second day look, I can't recommend this product enough!
