MAC WHIRL LIPSTICK + MAC COMPARISONS

I have no idea why I haven't posted this baby yet -- it has been sitting in my queue and I totally forgot about it!  But maybe it was a blessing in disguise, because I just checked and Whirl is finally back in stock on MAC's website.  As promised, here is a comparison of some of the nude lipstick shades I have from MAC, to see what this new cult-favorite Whirl lipstick is all about.  I also swatched it along side the original MAC Whirl Lip Liner, to see the small difference in color, as well at Gerard Cosmetics 1995 (Jaclyn Hill's ode to the 90's lip color).

(As always, click the photo to enlarge!)

The closest shade I have to Whirl is Spirit, but as you can see, Whirl is slightly darker than all of the others.  Whirl Lip Liner is actually a bit pinker in tone than the lipstick version, but are obviously very similar.  1995 is darker than Whirl, and more rosey and cool toned.

All in all, I think if you don't have Whirl but have other similar MAC shades, it isn't terribly necessary to hand over the extra $17.  It's a lovely shade, and I know I'll be wearing it a lot this fall, but it can easily be duplicated mixing around a few existing lipsticks that I own.   (Plus, I have a few drugstore dupes!! More on that later..)
